This is the ninth year Smashwords.com has conducted a mega-sale and promotion, for readers and authors, in honor of READ AN EBOOK WEEK, celebrated in 2018 on March 4 through 10. According to a Smashwords spokesperson:
For seven days only, thousands of Smashwords authors and publishers will provide readers deep discounts on ebooks, with coupon code levels for 25%-off, 50%-off, 75%-off and FREE.
At one minute past midnight Pacific time on March 4, the special Smashwords Read an Ebook Week promotion catalog [went] live on the Smashwords home page. Readers [are able] to browse the catalog and search by coupon code levels and categories.
Then, on March 10, like Cinderella’s coach and horses, after 11:59pm Pacific time the catalog disappears.
Read an Ebook Week grows larger every year as more and more authors get involved, and more and more readers discover the ebooks of those authors, and then go on to discover ebooks from other great authors.
For the story of how Read an Ebook Week was created, by Rita Toews, you can read Mark Coker’s Huffington Post interview with Ms. Toews HERE. Here is proof once again, if anyone needed it, that one person can make a huge difference in the lives of countless others.
We all have that friend or acquaintance (or inescapable relative) who shudders at the mention of Nooks and Kindles and who won’t clutter up their smartphone with books. We’ve all heard, “I want to hold a real book in my hands.”
But when you are on vacation for two weeks, you can’t carry all fourteen of those books on the plane with you. If you did, you’d split your luggage or injure your sacroiliac. If you had your ebooks with you, however, you could carry hundreds of volumes and never even notice a difference — because there wouldn’t be a difference. Ebooks weigh nothing, no matter how many you have.
Encourage someone you know to try reading an ebook for the first time this week. With so many authors making ebooks available for free or at deep discounts, there’s no risk at all to trying an ebook now.
